We received our income tax refund on Thursday, and it has been a fun few days as we have been able to buy some things that we’ve needed (and little bit that we wanted), put money in savings, paid off some medical debt, and Robert bought all of the parts he needs to fix our cars (basic maintenance, but we have needed it for a long time). It’s going to be so nice to have things fixed that have needed to be fixed for a long time. I guess this is one instance that it helps to not make much and to have kids.
I budgeted to buy Karis’ birthday presents and party decorations, so that’s done. I bought a few things to decorate such as some more curtains (from Walmart and Family Dollar), curtain rods (Family Dollar), and a small rug for my office (Amazon, $30!). I also bought a love seat at a thrift store for our bedroom. It was only $30, in great shape, and the perfect color. Karis needed some t-shirts and a few other clothes and the boys needed some shorts (Children’s Place online, 40% off everything!). I bought a few other things that I’ve needed for a long time but have put off. I got most of my prescriptions filled. And lastly, I stocked up on food. We are good for a long time (at least a month, except for produce and some dairy as needed, of course). I used to also stock up on produce when I could, but things went bad too fast.
We are picking up our love seat on Monday, and most of the things I ordered will be here Monday and Tuesday.
All I can say is that God provides. I get so bent out of shape about finances but he has provided for our needs and more.
Month-to-month is still so hard, but I am praying that I get disability. That will help us so much. If for nothing else but to be able to pay for my medical costs. My medicine and doc visits along with the kids’ medical and doc visits are hundreds a month. And we are about to have to put Levi on ADHD meds, most likely. From what I’ve seen, it’ll be about $150 a month for them.
I have spent today organizing the food that I bought yesterday, labeling my jars of food, cleaning up the house, washing sheets and towels and laundry, etc. This was all after I slept till 9:00! That hasn’t happened in a long time. I actually haven’t been getting a ton of sleep these days. Mostly because I like to get up and stay up in the morning but it’s still hard to fall asleep.
Anyway, I’m going to post some pictures now :-).
This is the love seat at the thrift store.
Robert put Karis’ curtains up last night (that I got at Family Dollar for $12.50 for two panels). She slept late today because of it (they are blackout curtains)! She hasn’t gotten much sleep in quite a while and she feels so good after last night. Also, I love that the curtains match almost everything in her room.
Robert put up the valances in the living room yesterday. He’s not a huge fan, but I really like them. They add some character to the room. I’m not a huge fan of valances in general, but curtains wouldn’t work because of the fact that our couch is in front.
I bought some curtains for our bedroom that I realized will be too short after they shipped, so we may try them in our living room. We’ll see.
These are the things I ordered that haven’t gotten here yet:
I want to buy a large one like it for our living room but it’s like $500! Crazy. In fact, when I went to find the one that I ordered, it’s not even on there anymore. And the rest are all high prices. I’m glad I bought it when I did!
For Karis’ birthday, she wants a Unicorn themed party. So, I’m making that happen. I also bought her things to bake and decorate with including fondant and tools. She loves decorating baked goods but we just don’t have much to use. She’s going to be so excited. To go with it, I bought her a cake decorating book.
Along with these things, I bought a big bag of flour, a lot of powdered sugar, and some gel food coloring.
She’s going to be sooooo excited.
This is what the unicorn decor looks like:
She hasn’t done a themed party in years, so I was excited to do this. She’s kind of obsessed with unicorns these days.
Now for the food organization that I’ve done today. It’s basically what I had going on before except that we have a TON of food and I also bought some Pioneer Woman sticker labels for the jars. I love organizing.
We have 2 refrigerators and 1 upright freezer. We have a pantry, and I also use 2 cabinets and a shelf thing (well, technically it’s called Pie Safe). I didn’t take a pic of the snack cabinet. I forgot. Oh well :-). You get the picture.
As you can see, we have a mixture of processed food and “whole foods.” I used to be anti-processed food, but I’ve grown and have learned that there’s a place for it. Most of our meat is axis venison (which is pretty mild, not game-y) along with some frozen chicken (breast and drumsticks), fish (mahi mahi, salmon, and a white fish that I can’t remember at the moment), and some bacon. We also have a lot of lunch meat.
Also, not pictured is a basket of russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, and onions. I also have a basket of fruit on the table.
Our snacks are veggie straws, goldfish, pretzels, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, Triscuits, generic cheez-its, graham crackers, tortilla chips, popcorn, and some mixed nuts :-). We also have cheese sticks, lots of yogurt (homemade and store bought), boiled eggs, fruits and veggies.
Now I just need to come up with some new recipes for all of this food! I will be working on that tomorrow (and I will share it here!).
Do you have any recipes you want to share? I will most likely be looking at Pinterest soon!
Today is soooooo beautiful and warm, which is very welcomed after a cold and rainy week. It’s about 80 degrees and sunny! I’m wearing shorts!
I just love living here. I’m so thankful that God brought us to this place.
