We have been flooded in (again). So I decided to process through some things and spend time getting organized.
No makeup Monday!
I have been struggling to figure out what habit to focus on next in my program. I was trying a movement habit, but I just don’t know that I’m ready yet!
Luckily it doesn’t have to be food or movement related! Balance 365 can work in ALL areas of life! Journaling, teeth brushing, house cleaning, and even finances! The principles are amazing and are changing lives all around. I’m so thankful.
The habits that I have developed so far are:
- Meal planning
- Meal prep
- “Goldilocks” (basically eating just the right amount)
- Nighttime routine
- Taking my meds
- Reading before bed (instead of being on my phone for hours, which has helped with sleep)
- House cleaning routines
- Consistently going to AA
- And more that I am probably forgetting
Some of these I developed before B365 and just got more consistent with them. Some I have developed since I joined. Overall, I have developed a lot of good habits, but I have many more that I want to develop (food and movement ones will take a while as I continue diet deprogramming).
Robert told me yesterday that he’s really concerned about our finances. Our savings is really low, and I am always needing more money from him because I spend too much! It has been bad especially this past month. I have always been a spender and I feel like I’ve tried everything… but what I realized yesterday is that I never focused on it long enough to make it a habit. Some habits take months and months to develop and it takes persistence and grace I work through it.
Yesterday I sat down and looked at the past few months to see where my money has gone. And so much of it has gone to impulse buying and this month I have spent way too much on groceries (granted, I was prepping because I knew we would be flooding, but I didn’t need to buy all that I bought!).
Then I took what I spent and made a realistic budget. I am using a simple spiral to budget each paycheck. Robert has a separate account for bills and savings; he gives me money for things like groceries, gas, and medical. These are our biggest expenses. And while I don’t spend as much as some people, I’m spending more than I need to. I know how to spend less but I haven’t been living that out.
I also decided to go back to the Dave Ramsey way of budgeting… cash envelope system. I actually have an official DR one! I just pulled it back out.
For a while, I plan to keep receipts and write down my expenses. This is definitely not something I plan to keep up with forever, but I want to see what’s going on in my finances consistently. I have a household notebook that I keep all of this in.
Cash budgeting will prevent online spending! There are times when it’s necessary and I’ll just cross that bridge when we get there. But, at this point, I need a very concrete way of staying with-in a tight budget.
SO how does this fit into Balance 365? First, developing this ONE habit only. I’m not going to focus on developing anymore habits until I have this one down and it’s second nature. Second, continuing to try until I get it down, giving myself grace and not expecting perfection. I know that it will not go as planned for a while.
I made a decision about something yesterday that brought me so much peace.
You would think since we are very tight financially that selling Younique makeup would help, right? Wrong. I wasn’t making much money AT ALL. Partly because I just don’t enjoy sales like I wanted to, and partly because most of my friends can’t afford high end makeup. I would buy all the new things so that I could do live videos to sell it, then no one would buy. It was costing me up to $100 a month. We don’t have $100 a month to spend on makeup! I have SO much makeup already… as much as I enjoy putting on the makeup, the sales part is something that I hated. So, I decided to stop selling! Now I have so much makeup to enjoy and don’t know if I will even buy much in the future. Maybe the skin care products. We’ll see. They are also super expensive. They are really, really good products. It’s just hard to justify. I have to spend $125 every 3 months to keep my account active, but I get 25% back so it’s doable. I just don’t know if I want to keep buying it. We’ll just see what happens!
Instead of selling Younique, I decided to finally turn in my application to sub! I plan to be available most Wednesdays and Fridays. I think it’s about $70-80 per day since I’m certified. This will help so so much. We don’t need a lot extra, but anything will be helpful. Also, it will be a great way to really be part of the community, get to know people, and make new friends. I will be around the kids at school which they will love. It will be hard to adjust to working outside of the home again, but it will be nice!
I’ll keep you updated on how this is going!
