The Christmas Tag

December 10, 2018 by Courtney

My blog isn’t popular enough to be tagged to write a specific post so I’m just going for it anyway.  Haha.  I found this tag on a blog that I follow called A Walk with Nature.

Here it is!

1. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

I LOVE giving gifts but we mainly give to the kids.  We have stopped giving to parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, etc. It has simplified Christmas so much.  I do give our most recent family photo in a frame to parents, grandparents, and siblings, but that all.  I don’t really receive many gifts anymore and I’m fine with that.  I used to care too much and make a big deal about it, but I’m over that.

2. Do you make and stick to New Year’s Resolutions?

I usually just choose a word for the year.  I sometimes make a list of habits that I want to focus on one at a time, but I don’t really care to make them “resolutions” because I’m all about balance in life.

3. Have you ever made a snowman?

Yes, but rarely.  We don’t really get much snow here in the Texas hill country so it’s mainly when I’m other places.  We go to the mountains of New Mexico during the Christmas break at some point and it’s usually snowing there.  The kids love it.

4. Is your Christmas tree real or fake, and what theme do you prefer?

We have a fake tree that looks real.  I like to decorate too early to get a real tree.  And I don’t really have a theme… just simple decor that we enjoy.  I don’t put Christmas stuff everywhere.  Just a tree, our stick tree, some stockings, and Christmas towels.  That’s about it.

5. Most memorable holiday moment?

Since my brother died, I hold on to the memories of he and I getting up super early together, tip toeing down the stairs to see what presents there are that aren’t wrapped.  Then we tip toe back up the stairs and laugh and giggle together in excitement.  I love this memory.  I also remember the decorating and how big of a deal it was for us.  Christmas baking is another.  My parents always did an amazing job of focusing on Christmas traditions.

6. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

This year we are having Christmas at Meemaws on the 22nd, with my mom’s family at my parents’ house on the 23rd, then we are coming home on the 24th and staying home as a family until the 28th. On that day we are going to New Mexico to my in-laws and spending New Years with them.  Lots of busyness, but not at the same time.  I’m actually pretty excited about Christmas this year.

7. What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?

This is a hard one.  I absolutely LOVED my wooden doll furniture.  Sometimes I wish I would have held onto that.  I was also blown away when my in-laws bought me tons of baking stuff.  A stand mixer and lots of things to go with it.  My parents always give me thoughtful gifts that match my personality and things that I enjoy.  Robert has given me some great things like a puffy jacket, an amazing vest, and things for camping and backpacking.  I’m just always thankful when people are thoughtful and give out of love.

8. What are your favourite holiday foods?

I love a traditional Christmas dinner with all of the fixings.  Turkey and ham, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, etc.  I love pie.  Christmas cookies.  All of it.

9. What is your favourite Christmas film?

This is a hard one!  I have so many favorites.  National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph, Elf, It’s a Wonderful Life; I could go on and on.

10. What is your favourite Christmas song?

Probably O Holy Night though I love Christmas music and have lots of faves!

11. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Christmas lights, simplicity, love in the air, peace, joy, Jesus-focus, family, and traditions.

12. What would be your dream place to visit at Christmas time?

Colorado mountains.  But New Mexico mountains are fantastic also and we visit there every year so I’m satisfied with that.

13. Who do you spend Christmas with?

Christmas day is usually just with my little family at home.  Before and after Christmas day with all of my family and Robert’s family.

14. When do you start getting excited for Christmas?

I start listening to classical Christmas music in September!  Haha!  I start decorating in early November.  Then I’m ready to move on right after Christmas.

15. You have one Christmas wish – what will it be?

Honestly?  I already have everything that I want and need.  I’m blown away at all that God has blessed me with and I can’t imagine life any different than it is now.

I’m tagging my friend at Pink for Days!
