Grocery Geek, December 14th

December 15, 2018 by Courtney

I spent more this time around than I normally do because 1) the kids will be home for a good part of it and they normally eat lunch at school (for free), 2) I got food for the holidays, 3) I got stocking stuffers, and 4) I needed quite a few personal care products and otc meds.

The stocking stuffers aren’t in the pics because I had to take them straight to my room so the kids wouldn’t see them. It’s most just candy. I ordered a small Amazon gift card for each kid as well.

I spent $250 for two weeks. This is usually my budget but I typically don’t spend it all at once. I’m still pretty pleased with myself. Every bit of food has a meal that it’s planned for plus snacks. I got a lot of “whole foods” but also some processed stuff. I’m okay with that. It’s all about balance for me. I planned to make homemade yogurt but decided that it’s too expensive right now because I would need to start fresh. Maybe after Christmas.

I bought food from HEB and a few other things from Walmart and the Dollar Tree.

Here are the non-food products.

  • Toilet paper
  • Kleenex
  • Shampoo and conditioner (ogx)
  • Body wash (ogx)
  • Burt’s Bees lip balm
  • Toms toothpaste for kids and us
  • Flonase, Zyrtec, and cough drops
  • Candle
  • Wrapping paper, boxes, and labels
  • Printer paper

Here’s all of the meat.  It’s all natural and local (HEB is all local!).

  • Tamales (for Christmas Eve)
  • Natural chicken nuggets
  • Bacon
  • Whole chicken
  • Pound of ground beef
  • Pork chops
  • Pork for carnitas

  • Chewy granola bars
  • Peanut butter crackers
  • Annie’s cheese bunny crackers
  • Annie’s cookie crackers
  • Triscuits
  • HEB homemade whole wheat bread (trying it… it’s much smaller than I thought it would be)

Produce (and some frozen veggies)!  I might have to buy a little more for next week.

  • Pink lady apples
  • 3 bell peppers
  • Cuties (mandarin oranges)
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Bag of yellow onions
  • Bananas
  • Organic Italian salad
  • Celery
  • Broccoli
  • Cucumber
  • Bag of frozen riced veggies
  • Bag of frozen veggies

More pantry foods…

  • Think Thin protein oatmeal x 2
  • Tortilla chips
  • Powdered sugar
  • Canola oil
  • Sea salt (fine and coarse)
  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips
  • Duke’s mayo
  • Fruit and cream oatmeal (for Ethan)

Cold foods

  • 3 dozen eggs
  • 2 pounds of butter
  • 2 natural creamers
  • 2 packages of sliced medium cheddar
  • 1 lb gouda cheese (2 x 8oz)
  • 1 lb shredded cheddar
  • 1 gallon 2% milk (will probably need another gallon)
  • Roasted garlic hummus
  • Sour cream
  • Greek gods Greek yogurt (honey)
  • Uncured salami
  • 3 packages of uncured HEB deli meat

To see how I’m going to use all of this, check out my meal plan!
