Grocery Geek, March 8th

We saved the majority of our income tax refund for Karis’s braces, dental work for Robert and I, and just for savings.  We get quite a bit back because Robert’s salary on paper is low because it’s not a requirement to include housing and utility costs.  Also, ministry… Haha.

I used some to buy curriculum (I spent more than I planned, but oh well), buy some things that I have been putting off like ink for our printer, a new tea kettle because ours was rusted, etc, and I stocked up on groceries.  I went through my dry foods and threw away old stuff and replaced it with fresh.  I also got lots of fresh foods because I’m trying to eat nutritiously again (with the exception of some processed foods for “just in case”).

I also placed a rather large Grove order because I’m trying to treat the environment better and also to use natural products.  I have really been convicted lately about the amount of waste that I produce so I’m trying to remedy that.  We are starting to recycle and compost again.

So this post will show all of that.  This is *not* a frugal groceries post like normal so I won’t share how much I spent :-P.  Honestly, I’m not 100% sure because I bought some things from Grove, some things from, a few things from Amazon, some things from Walmart pick up, and lots of things from HEB curbside.  I had a super large order at HEB.

I’m just so thankful to God for providing all that we need and a lot of what we want.  We are completely blessed.

So I pretty much got organic if it was close to the non-organic price.  If it was a lot more expensive, I got non-organic with the exception of milk.  I tried to get natural meats and things.  One of the things that I like about organic and natural isn’t necessarily the pesticides but the fact that they usually have less process to them.  More whole food ingredients.

I came home yesterday and organized my pantry spaces.  I have 3: one is an old pie-safe that has my “whole foods ingredients,” one is pantry shelves above our washer, and one is just a cabinet in the actual kitchen.

I love having organized spaces.  My goal this weekend is to organize my fridges and freezers.  I’ll try to show pics in my food prep post.

  1. First — I love the shampoo you got. I’m not familiar with Grove but we order from Thrive Market which potentially is similar.

    Secondly, do you plan meals before grocery shopping? I’m always looking for ways to save money, so I’m curious how others shop.

    • I do plan meals! If you look at the post before this one it’s the meal plan for two weeks. I don’t normally get this many groceries though. I bought extra. I typically make a two week meal plan and then grocery shop online using our curbside pick up. I typically spend $175-250 every two weeks.
